Mira: A Simple and Elegant Chair Design by Cemil YavuzReducing Labor and Enhancing Functionality
In this design, Cemil Yavuz aims to reduce the extra labor force in production while creating a lightweight and visually appealing chair. The inspiration for Mira came from the desire to create a chair frame using only two different metal bending processes. The result is a chair that not only fulfills its functionality but also boasts a simple and elegant appearance.
Mira is a chair made of three curved profiles. The frame of the chair consists of a combination of three stainless steel profiles. Two profiles are bent in the same angle and direction, while the third profile bends in a different way. The main body of the chair is completed with the assembly of fabric-covered seat and back surfaces. The final touch is the attachment of height-adjustable plastic feet, giving the chair its ultimate form.
With its width of 686 mm, depth of 533 mm, and height of 690 mm, Mira offers a comfortable seating experience. Additionally, as a disassembled chair, it can be easily packed into a smaller carton box for convenient transportation.
One of the key features of Mira is its user-friendly design. Users can easily assemble the chair themselves by taking it out of the box. The chair can be used in both positions, leaning left or right, providing flexibility in placement. Its lightweight nature allows for easy repositioning around a table or as a standalone piece. The chair's simple appearance and non-standard lines make it a visually striking addition to any space.
The design process for Mira involved examining iconic chairs from history, with a focus on simplicity and ease of production. Numerous drawings were created to find the ideal form, taking into consideration the angles at which the machine could bend the profiles during production. The result is a chair that embodies the motto "less is more" and offers a plain yet visually appealing design.
Mira has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2021. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements.
